A lot of people see what I’m doing – speaking a lot, traveling, living a nice lifestyle – and think that it’s easy. It’s not.
Entrepreneurship is hard. I go through many moments when I’m not sure if I’ll be able to pay my bills. I go through doubt, frustration and insecurity because I’m not sure if I can do this. I get scared when I’m about to pitch a new product or business. I’m constantly on edge as I try to create sustainable wealth for myself.
Don’t ever think that it’s easy.
When I was in corporate I also had it hard. I wasn’t sure if I was being accepted by the team. I had to ask for leave. I was told what to do, when to do it, to be at work at 9 until 5 sitting in traffic. It was hard. There are some people who are unemployed and don’t know where they’re going to get their next meal from.
Life is always going to be hard but the thing is you get to pick your hard. You get to pick leaving your comfort zone.
I picked the hard of entrepreneurship because the reward was worth it. Being able to decide when, how and where I work was worth the stress and insecurity.
If you pick the hard of corporate, then don’t complain about the consequences. The hard of corporate means that sometimes you’ll have to settle for:
- A boss that’s sometimes ungrateful
- A salary that’s not great
- Two weeks leave
- Sitting in traffic two hours a day
If you’re willing to accept that hard, don’t complain about it.
If you choose the hard of entrepreneurship then you’re going to have to:
- Work long hours
- Have sleepless nights because you’re not sure when you’re going to get paid.
- Motivate yourself
However you get the reward of being your own boss.
Remember you have a choice. If you don’t like where your life is, change your decisions. But realize that whatever decision you make you’re still going to have it hard.
I hope that you pick the right hard.
