If you are reading this or watching this video I must assume that you are going through some sort of heartbreak. If you are, let me start off by saying I am sorry. Heartbreak is one of the most painful situations and I would know, because I am going through this at the moment.
I often do these videos to help myself through things, but I also hope that perhaps something I say will help lessen the pain of the heartbreak. You know, love is one of the most beautiful things in the world, but it does come at a price. The pain of loss is something as intense as the feeling of love.
It’s important to realise that pain demands to be felt. There is no point in running away, distracting yourself from feeling, because those feelings will have to be dealt with. Either you can deal with it now, or hold onto it until your next relationship.
Some simple things to remember when going through heartache;
- Don’t blame yourself. A relationship is a two way street and if it didn’t work it’s not because you are wrong and to blame, but rather that the two of you weren’t willing to make it work. It’s not your fault, I promise you.
- Lean on friends for support. It’s incredible, I may not have a love life, but I have so much love in my life J
- Feel the emotions. Avoiding the emotions is only putting a band aid on the problem, you need to deal with the wound and fix it from the inside out.
- Do what makes you happy. Focus on playing piano or exercising or spending quality time with quality people. Make yourself happy and don’t worry about anyone else.
At the end of the day, these wise words won’t stop the bleeding but I do hope they help you with some of the grieving. Some pain (like that of heartbreak) can only truly be fixed through time.
